Nature is returning to our cities. Now it is time to track the impact.
For over a decade, we have helped property managers transform rooftops and unused spaces into thriving ecosystems focused on sustainable development. As sustainability evolves from a nice-to-have into a business necessity, biodiversity has emerged as a key driver of tenant engagement, community value, and competitive differentiation.
The challenge many property managers face is quantifying and demonstrating these benefits. How do you measure the impact of your green initiatives? How do you translate ecological improvements into data that satisfies stakeholders?
That’s where our Nature Reporting Engine comes in, powerful digital platform built to help property managers track, measure, and report the real impact of their nature-based solutions for effective sustainability reporting.
Introducing the Nature Reporting Engine
The Nature Reporting Engine offers a data-driven approach to understanding and reporting the environmental impact of nature-based solutions by efficiently collecting and managing ESG data.
Whether you’re targeting green building certifications or responding to investor demand for ESG data, the platform helps you stay aligned with non-financial reporting frameworks and industry standards.

How we collect and analyze biodiversity data for sustainability reporting
At Alvéole, we utilize bees as a unique tool to monitor the impact of real estate on nature and biodiversity. Throughout the season, our urban beekeepers harvest samples from:
- Honey bee hives: capturing environmental signals through pollen and nectar
- BeeHomes for wild bees: tracking nesting activity to assess habitat use
We then analyze these samples for environmental DNA (eDNA), which reveals the plant species and ecosystem conditions around your property.
What insights you’ll gain
Your Nature Reporting Engine dashboard delivers intuitive insights at both building and portfolio levels. The comprehensive reports include:
1. Floral diversity
One standout feature is our eDNA plant analysis, which produces a seasonal list of plant species identified through pollen collected by bees. This paints a rich picture of your local ecosystem, something previously impossible at this scale. We’ll also suggest native plants that would make great additions to your pollinator-friendly spaces.
2. Wild bee activity and pesticide presence
In the insect nesting section, you’ll find data on which species are actively using your BeeHomes, along with seasonal patterns.
This information helps you align wild bee support with your broader ESG goals, support native species more effectively, and adjust timing and nesting materials for optimal impact. These insights empower you to make targeted improvements to your conservation efforts while demonstrating tangible results.
Additionally, our report can detect traces of pesticides collected by bees, providing valuable data to inform your Integrated Pest Management (IPM) strategies for a more comprehensive approach to ecosystem health.
3. Tenant Engagement
Finally, our annual reports include data on tenant impact, including workshop attendance and online engagement with Alvéole’s platform. By tracking tenant involvement as our primary audience, you can demonstrate your community’s growing awareness of biodiversity efforts and the overall success of the program.
Engaging other stakeholders in these sustainability initiatives is also crucial for comprehensive reporting and meeting the needs of various audiences.
How we store and share your data
Reporting is available through your MyHive dashboard, but only if it’s included in your plan. If you’re unsure which plan you’re on or whether you have access to reporting, feel free to reach out to your dedicated account manager at [email protected].
How long is the data stored?
Because this is a relatively new feature, we’re continuously building on it. As long as you remain a client of Alvéole, you’ll be able to compare data year over year, much like how a balance sheet provides a financial snapshot over time. Since biodiversity data is most meaningful when viewed over the long term, our goal is to ensure access to historical data for up to 10 years.
How often is the data updated?
Our aim is to disclose information and update data as often as possible throughout the year so you can track progress regularly. However, you can expect the majority of our biodiversity eDNA data to be updated annually, due to operational considerations.
Why this data matters for sustainability performance
As biodiversity becomes a critical aspect of sustainability reporting standards, property managers need reliable, actionable data that meets the demands of financial markets. Our Nature Reporting Engine not only provides valuable insights into the floral diversity surrounding your building but also supports green certification efforts such as BOMA BEST, LEED, and WELL.
With this data at your fingertips, you can demonstrate the tangible benefits of your sustainability efforts. Whether by engaging tenants with educational content or including insights in your annual sustainability reporting, precise and actionable data is essential for staying competitive in the evolving real estate market. It also allows you to benchmark and improve your sustainability performance over time, offering stakeholders a clear view of your environmental progress.
The future of biodiversity reporting frameworks
Biodiversity reporting is an evolving field, with new frameworks and certifications emerging regularly, including initiatives like the International Sustainability Standards Board. We are committed to staying ahead of these changes in sustainability reporting by continually releasing new features and metrics to improve our offerings.
This ensures that our clients are not only meeting biodiversity goals but are also better equipped for ESG reporting as it becomes more rigorous and data-driven.
To further improve our commitment to sustainability, we launched the Nature-Related Risk Platform, an innovative tool designed to help property managers assess and manage biodiversity risks. This platform aligns with leading non-financial reporting frameworks, offering actionable insights to future-proof portfolios and ensuring compliance with emerging regulations.
Stay tuned for future updates as we work together to make our cities more biodiverse and sustainable.
