Urban beekeeping is safe, with many successful programs throughout Halifax. At Alvéole, we use Italian honey bees, a breed known for their docility. These bees are gentle and only sting when they feel threatened, which is rare. Since bees die after stinging, they avoid doing so unless absolutely necessary.

Wild bees are also peaceful and nonterritorial. While capable of stinging, they are extremely gentle and focused on their work, making stings highly unlikely unless directly provoked.
