Urban beekeeping in Calgary
Known for its small-town friendliness, Calgary is actually one of Canada’s newest Bee Cities, which means it’s actively working to improve habitat spaces and public education for the city’s busy pollinators. With a broad range of native grasses and wildflowers like gaillardias, blue flax, and wild bergamot, Calgary has everything it needs to become an important beekeeping hub.
Meet Calgary's urban beekeeping team manager
Originally from the middle of nowhere in central Alberta, Sean spent the past 5 years in Field, BC looking for frogs, climbing pine trees, and jumping in ice-cold lakes. Her passion for pollinators, environmental education, community-building, and food security led her to Alvéole, and she’s been buzzing around Calgary and Edmonton ever since.
